Mt. Rainier

Exploring Washington's National Park with Local Wanderer & Land Rover USA

Story by Santiago de Hoyos October 16th, 2014

Hey, strangerS

It’s not every day that you get invited on a road trip to Washington’s geographical crown jewel, Mt. Rainier. Even better, the invitation was extended to me by pseudo-strangers who ended up being two of the kindest girls I’ve had the pleasure of traveling with. They run a wonderful travel blog called Local Wanderer and the prospect of being included in one of their adventures was exciting, to say the least. But wait, that’s not all! Also along for the ride are two of my favorite photographers, Emanuel Smedbøl & Megan McLellan. So how do I go about making a great first impression in a car full of strangers? Well, I do what any sensible person would’ve done and I sleep. And snore. And drool. Exhaustion from the week before caught up with me and sometimes you just need your Z’s, you know?

Unfortunately, my health was unstable for most of the trip and because of it, I was too weary to do much writing to accompany the following photographs. That being said, after you’re done taking a gander below, I strongly suggest you check out Local Wanderer’s piece for Land Rover USA here, and Emanuel & Megan’s recount of the trip on their adventure blog titled Field & Forest, here. I just want to say a big thank you again to Local Wanderer for the invitation and another one to Emanuel and Megan for just being downright lovely folks.
